My Dad's dog, Snowy
| | He's got a skin disease, just looked it up. The vet said, it was something they get. Me thinks, either he knows how much the medicine is, and was hiding it, or, is not a very good vet.
|
| | Treatment can be topical, oral, or both. Topical treatment alone is not usually adequate but, since oral medications are expensive, often topical management alone is attempted first, especially if the pet is small enough for convenient frequent bathing or if only a small body area is involved. |
| | Spot Treatments: If only a small area is involved, it is probably not necessary to bathe the entire animal.Ê Special acetic acid wipes can be used to cleanse the affected area. Mixtures of vinegar and water can be used but the pet will develop a distinct vinegar odor. |
| | Shampoos: While degreasing shampoos such as the benzoyl peroxide (oxydex¨, pyoben¨) and sulfur/salicylate (sebolyte¨, sebolux¨) shampoos will help remove the skin oils feeding the yeast, there are shampoos that are specifically anti-yeast.Ê We prefer the 4% Chlorhexidine shampoo called Chlorhexiderm Max 4% - 12 oz: $26.49 as it both strips skin oil and kills yeast; however, other anti-yeast products include Selsun Blue, Miconazole shampoo, Nizoral shampoo, and more.Ê The pet must be bathed twice a week to start and the shampoo requires a 15 minute contact time (meaning do not rinse the lather for 15 minutes). |
| | Apparently you can buy it by the gallon too! |
| | Oral therapy: Ketoconazole (Nizoral¨) rules when it comes to oral therapy. Typically a several week treatment is needed and there are numerous protocols involving different dosing schedules. Higher doses tend to be needed if recurrence is a problem.Ê The extreme itch usually resolves within one week.Ê This medication is expensive, especially in larger dogs, but often there is no way around its use. |
| | Ketoconazole: "The most common side effects are nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea." |
| | It's pretty powerful stuff though, don't know the dose for a little dog! |
| | Nizoral Generic (Ketoconazole) 200mg 90 Tablets = $91.95 |
| | That's $1.02 each, that's 72 pence. That's not expensive for my Dad's dog -- I know what Snowy's getting for Christmas |
| | Nizoral Generic (Ketoconazole) Creme 180g = $97.95 |
| | Yeast Infection of the Skin: "The following breeds are predisposed genetically to yeast infections:- the West Highland White Terrier, Basset hound, Cocker spaniel, Silky terrier, Australian terrier, Maltese, Chihuahua, Poodle, Shetland sheepdog, Lhasa apso, and the dachshund."
|
| | Uh-oh looks like the vet was right. That's my Dad's dog. Must be 15 now, and stone deaf, and a little incontinent.

I'm bored at 12:21:06 am
| | Mainly with war, sex and business blogging. Because it hasn't made me money. It's an unpaying chore, at least that's the way it feels.
|
| | But, I'm also excited, looks like the future is going to be quite interesting. But will it be profitable? That looks good too. Glad to eventually break out, and start hounding for work.
|
| | Several nice meetings coming up in December
|
| | Should be able to get that turkey after all, it was looking dodgy a few days ago. I like the buzz of a new business. Especially when there's the smell of good money in the air. Hell, it'll make a difference.
|
| | My mate next door is out selling high quality fitted kitchens, £3,000 -- £9,000. He was selling mortgages, but they bust him and froze his assets, he's been skint for months, tried being an AA man for a few days, earned £140 first day, nothing after that -- kept the jacket. Reckons one guy is taking home £3,500 a week. On three sales, don't know how many knock backs, Tony seemed to think it was 3 out of 5, for him. |
| | He's quite buzzed, being an animated chap. Ex SAS. Skinny, 52 years old, small. Wiry. Grey highlights, that Amanda puts in for him. Usually dressed in a tatty, ripped dressing gown, or some nice old suites. |
| | Plucking chickens? No, he's doing fitted kitchens. |
| | £3,500 a week. Makes me think. Work times to suit, evenings better than days.
|
| | I'll see what happens upto Christmas, what the look ahead over the holiday is like.
|
| | Plucking chickens as a part time job? There's a basic of £180 a week, a week and a bit's training, then you can switch for commission: 10% of first £3,000, anything over £4,500 and you get half, right the way up to £7,000. Depends on your sales technique. Tony, nips out for a fag, just before he thinks he's got the close, "while you think it over" and comes back with a grand cash back when it's fitted if they have it on finance. Or, at least that's the ploy.

Esme and Bradley and wrestling
| | Fighting is fun, most of the time when you're one years old and a month. Slap your forehead into the deep, soft bedspread, and charge, pushing with your little feet -- that's funny -- giggle heartily, while groaning in your war chant, yeah, being thrown up on your dad's head, and smashed down, face first into the pillows -- now, that's really funny. Boy, does my little boy sream with laughter and come back, forehead down, attacking and groaning for more.
|
| | But, Esme's neck throttle, and caterpillar rolls, they, they are not popular, most of the time. I think it depends on how tired they both are, sometimes they can pull it off for a while with out tears, other times Bradley can get the edge on Esme, by rolling on top and smashing her in the face a few times -- that seems to get her attention.
|
| | It's the funniest thing to watch, the two of them fighting,
|
| | They just roll around in a grapple, giggling. Mind, I suppose it only lasts a minute or two, before it goes pear shaped. |
| | Esme gets on my back, "not 'eady yet, 'orsey" and I throw her around while Bradley gets underneath my chest in one of his charges. Man, it must be the funniest thing to see, or rather hear. I'm a-roaring-and-a-rawling in my deep voice, Esme's screaming at the highest pitch, while Bradley, under my chest is eeeping and yacking in laughter.
|
| | I've got to set this up on video, it always seems spur of the moment and I forget.
